Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of entry into Tonga.

Visas

British passport holders visiting Tonga as a tourist or on business are normally given permission to enter the country for up to 30 days. You should be able to provide an onward air or sea ticket, adequate funds and relevant health certificates. If you wish to extend your stay you must obtain permission from the Principal Immigration Officer.

Yet never once did any whale bump the hull. On one occasion a large fin whale dove under my boat. The whale was much bigger than my sailboat, which was a 42 ft cutter.. As the flukes went into the ocean on one side, I looked over the other side and could see the head and body of the whale under the keel. It surfaced on the other side and then swam alongside for a while, but never touched the keel. Whales seem to have a very good sense of where their bodies are, and fortunately seem very kind and friendly to sailors.
